It’s really forced down our throats that if you struggle with your weight it’s simply because you don’t have enough will power, or it’s because you’re lazy or maybe you think it’s because you just love food and you’re not willing to make enough sacrifices.
Well by that token it means that every skinny person you know got that way because they had enormous amounts of will power – and we all know that simply is not the case.

Why it’s NOT about Will Power
You see when you use WILLPOWER essentially you are trying to fight against the current and what people don’t realise is that trying to force your body to be thin through dieting is like trying to hold a volleyball under water – eventually you’re going to have to let it go and it will rebound back to the surface with way more force than before.
So if you’ve worked so hard to lose a bunch of weight but then you end up powerless to resist temptation down the track – thas because you’ve used all your will power works!
And that’s why using Will Power NEVER works long term!
Why it’s NOT about Discipline!
Discipline is what you need when you’re trying to train run a marathon, or push your body to some extreme level of performance,
Discipline is also synonymous for punishment – and you can’t punish yourself healthy!
A lean and healthy body is your birth right. When you honour your body day in and day out – your body has the innate intelligence to heal yourself from any imbalances.
I don’t get up and brush my teeth every morning because I’m disciplined – it’s because I truly value my teeth and I am equally motivated to avoid the embarrassment of stinky breath and yellow stained teeth.
A lean healthy body is something that when you value it, and recognise that a healthy and vibrant body is your BIRTH RIGHT and not some magical unicorn fantasy ideal – then it’s easy to make choices that honours it.
It’s also not about Sacrifice
Sacrifice is about missing out on the things that you love and depriving yourself. And the way that the Universe works is that there is always an equal and opposite reaction – so if you’re sacrificing and depriving you are going to be inevitably led to REWARDING yourself.
This is going to create that same push pull effect that created the All or Nothing behaviour that created the problem in the first place! That vicious Binge-Deprive-Binge cycle is directly caused by the Sacrifice & Reward dichotomy.
If you want lasting weight loss results and you want to achieve it in a sustainable way – then my philosophy is all about the 3 C’s
Clarity is about being really clear on what it is that you want, and whether or not your behaviours are helping you or hindering you. This can be as simple as sitting down to a meal and saying
“Is this getting me CLOSER or FURTHER away from my goals?”
OR it might be something deeper in your subconscious mind that you don’t realise is actually influencing you more than you realise.
Like, a fear of failure – however irrational it sounds to your conscious mind might be what’s keeping you from committing whole heartedly to your results. It’s only when we recognise that and bring it out into the open, that we can easily step over it and move past it.
When you are committed to being somebody who has good personal hygiene and who values their smile – cleaning your teeth is an easy no brainer.
The same goes that when you are committed to you being somebody who honours and values your body – doing the right nutritional habits day in day out also becomes effortless and automatic.
For some people it’s easier to use will power, discipline and sacrifice to try and be PERFECT than to really get PRESENT about what their current behaviours are really costing them.
However, that on again off again, All or Nothing behaviour will only get you results in the short term, CONSISTENCY is the only thing that will get you results for the LONG TERM.
If you do what you’ve always done – you’ll get what you’ve always got.
So – if year after year, you want to be feeling like it’s a case of “back to the drawing board” again and again – then keep on going with Will Power, Discipline and Sacrifice.
Or – If you want to get the OPPOSITE of what you’ve always gotten – you have to do OPPOSITE to how you’ve always done.
